We know that when we protect our ocean, we are protect our future.
– President Bill Clinton
Nowadays, environmental issues is continue increasing and becoming seriousness. The environmental issues is becoming threat to the ecological environment system. Now, let us talk about the threat the ocean facing now.
Three main problems that the ocean is facing now:

Plastic Debris
Plastic pollution is the substances that cannot be break down being throw to the ocean
Overfishing
Overfishing is occur when the human catch fishes is faster than the fish can replenish.

Oil Pollution
Ocean can be polluted by the oil spill from the routine shipping, run-offs and dumping.
Today, I will share about plastic debris to the ocean. Plastic debris is the most serious issues to the ocean now. There is a huge amount of marine life are killed or harmed by the plastics.
From the research of Ocean Cruhsaders:
- There are 100,000 marine creatures die from plastic a years.
- Approximately 1 million sea birds also die from plastics.
- Estimated there will be 46,000 pieces of plastics in every square mile of ocean.
- There are 13,000 to 15,000 pieces of plastic dumped into the ocean every day.

From the diagram above, we seen that there will be 2.5 billion solid waste is produced by human and around 275 million is plastic waste, 100 million will be coastal plastic waste. This result 8 million plastic goes into the ocean every year. Can you imagine how the ocean looks like ? How the marine life live in a ocean with full of plastics and think it is their food ?

How long the plastic will decompose?
- Plastic is durable materials which made of polyethylene terephthalate and most of the bacteria cannot decompose the plastics.
- Normally, plastic items need to 1000 years to decompose.
- The plastic bags we use in our daily life will use 10-20 years to decompose.
- Plastic bottles will need to take 450 years to decompose.
- From the research, only the UV light from the sun can break the plastic down.
- When the UV rays strike on plastics, it can break down the bonds holding the long molecular chain together.
- Although UV rays can break down the plastic, but it still need a very long period of time.
- To reduce the plastic pollution problem, biodegradable plastics are in development nowadays, it is a type of plastics which can be easily decompose.
- In a nutshell, using recycle bag is still the best way as there will be reduction of plastic or rubbish made, and the recycle bag can always reuse.

Let’s us start to protect the environments and animals:
The slide share are displaying how the plastic pollution to the our now.
Human hurt the environment , but animals are taking the consequences.
Your Ignorance will kill them
The rubbish you simply throw may harmed the animals. In the ocean condition, some of the marine life will seen the plastic as their foods and this cause a lot of marine life’s stomach is containing plastic and rubbish. On the other hand, some of the marine life was nested by the plastics and this cause them couldn’t having their food or suffocated until they died.
Please throw your rubbish in a right way, start to protect the animals and ocean now. Your small action may save the animals and environment, your ignorance may continue killing them.
Let’s us start to protect them together now
There are a few things we can do:
- Pick up any bottles or plastic you see
- Try to not using straw now or bought the stainless straw
- Try to use recycle bag instead of using plastic bags
- Recycle as much as possible
- Join or organize beach clean up

Do you know which organization charities are protecting our ocean ?
Let’s us see which organization are fighting to protect our ocean.
Below are some of the organizations which are having charities to protect our ocean:

In the future, every marine creature may be list as endanger species. Such a situation, whereby the drastic declination in ocean species is a prodigious contribution of humans.
Nevertheless, people will have a clear understanding on how plastics affected and threatened with extinction of marine species through this blog. Humans should waking up to the problem, reduce the plastic dependency in daily life.
