5 Ways of Taking Care of New Born Babies’ Skin

Baby in White Onesie Holding Wooden Blocks

Babies are born with very gentle and fragile skin. New parents are often concerned about their baby’s skin, which is not surprising. A baby’s skin is very sensitive and he/she may probably develop rashes and allergies if proper skin care is not practiced.  Do you know a human being has the best skin when he or she is a baby? Proper skin care can ensure that your baby can maintain great skin all his/her life.

1. The thing to watch out when having a bath with babies

Baby Inside White Bathtub With Water

Parents prefer to bathe their child every day. It is better to use shampoo and soaps which do not cause an allergic reaction to the baby. Wash your baby’s skin with lukewarm water and a gentle soap. The room that you use to dry off your baby should be warm and all air conditioners and fans should be switched off to avoid the chill.

Do not try any new product on your baby’s skin. Do not use any antibacterial soaps as they may be too harsh for the sensitive skin of the baby. It is best to wipe the baby using natural cotton and smooth towels to ensure gently take out the moisture out of the skin there by staying away from unexpected scratch.

You need to be even more careful while choosing a talcum powder for your baby. Choose products that are designed specifically for babies and avoid using powders that have fragrances and other chemicals as they may irritate the baby’s sensitive skin. Stay away from powders that contain grains and choose herbal powders, especially for the diaper area. As a rule, it is best if you avoid powdering the diaper area, as it may lead to future complications or infections.

2. Choose the right diapers

The diapers that are used for babies are actually helpful for keeping the baby clean and fresh. However, certain diapers may also irritate the baby’s skin and may causes rashes or infections. It is best to change the diaper as soon as you find your baby has ‘used’ it.  If you find that skin is irritated at the diaper area, choose another variety or brand- your baby has a diaper rash. Remember to change your baby’s diaper as soon as he dirties it, because letting it stay for too long can cause infections. While most newborns are prone to rashes, you need to take certain preventive measures and avoid them in the first place. Here are some guidelines you should follow for your newborn baby skin care.

Diaper rashes often occur due to skin irritation due to wet diaper left on for too long, too-tight diapers or due to the use of a specific soap, wipes or a diaper.

  • Change the diaper as soon as it is wet and after using wipes to clean the area, sprinkle some powder to keep the area dry and clean
  • Most baby skin rashes are not a serious problem, but few of them may be a sign of infection and need a special care. If you find that the rashes are too serious, visit your paediatrician for better treatment right away

3. Birthmarks

Baby On Fur Rug

Generally, lots of babies have birthmarks (areas of skin have a slight discoloration) and this condition is not hereditary. Parents need not worry about birthmarks, as they cause absolutely no harm to the baby and needs no treatment.

  • Eczema is a red, itchy rash that may or may not occur in response to a cause. It usually occurs on the baby’s face, elbow, arms or behind knees, chest. If the child’s family experience with allergies, asthma or atopic dermatitis, the baby may be at a risk of getting affected by eczema. Use mild soaps and apply soft amounts of moisturizers
  • Some babies also tend to develop acne; however, they are not the same as teenage acne. If the problem persists, visit your paediatrician

4. If your babies have dry skin

If your baby has dry skin, use a natural moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated, soft and supple. Pure coconut oil is a favorite.

  • Avoid bathing your baby too often, as it may sap the vital nutrients from the skin, leaving it dull and dry
  • During your baby’s first month, gently sponge her with plain water two or three times a week; this should keep the baby clean while preventing her skin from losing its natural moisture
  • Use the best skin care products made especially for babies. Be careful if baby is allergic to any products like bath gels, shampoos and lotions

5. About babies’ immune system

Toddler walking on sandy beach with faceless father

The newborn baby skin is very delicate and so is their immune system.

  • Babies should not be exposed to direct sunlight until they are 6 months old. The tender skin of the baby can be protected with long-sleeved tops, pants and hats
  • Make sure that your little one’s new outfits are clean; it is preferable to wash (and soften) new outfits before your baby wears them
  • Prickly heat appears due to sweating, like the armpits, skin folds, neck diaper areas. Loose clothes and cool environment are all you need to treat from prickly heat rashes
  • Chemical detergents, talcum powders and certain baby products can cause skin irritation, rashes, dryness etc. Stick to using organic products as often as possible to protect your baby’s skin from harmful infections or allergic reactions

Hope our post on baby skin care will make you understand that your baby’s sweet, sensitive skin needs nothing but the best care.

Deforestation

Human, did you know?
You are destroying the lungs of the Earth.

You will pay the most expensive fees in your future.

Deforestation is the action of clearing a wide areas of trees.

Deforestation activity is continuing increase. Human and animals are facing a lot of consequences by deforestation. Let’s see what is the consequences of deforestation:

Consequences of Deforestation

  1. Animals loss of habitat
Deforestation has destroy the home of the animals and the animals do not know where to relocate.
  2. Soil erosion and flooding
Trees are functioning to retain water and top soil. Without trees, the soil erodes and wash away , especially coastal villages will face flooding without protection of trees.
  3. Greenhouse gas emissions
Trees are function as greenhouse gas filter. Without tree, the increasing of greenhouse gases, lead to global climate change and increase of natural disasters.

Deforestation is not only bring the consequences to animals only, human is also facing the consequences of deforestation.

Causes of Deforestation

-Agriculture Expansion
Due to increasing of global demand on commodities such as palm oil and soy bean, are driving industrial producers to clear the forests at alarming rate.

– Illegal Logging
In Indonesia, illegal logging can provide short term income for people living on less than $1 a day.

– Infrastructure Expansion
The road expansions often lead to logging and illegal logging, where opportunists slash down trees without permission from authorities.

– Overpopulation
Our Earth once housed an estimated maximum of 15 million people in prehistory. Nowadays, it sustains 7 billion people and counting. With overpopulation, there is an increase in global needs and wants, leading to expansion and deforestation. The planet’s forests are being devastated at an even rate with population growth.

There are some ways you and me can help to stop deforestation:

  • Stop printing and go paperless
  • Recycle as much as possible
  • Support companies that produce products with minimum harm to environment
  • Only purchase sustainable wood products
  • Do not burn firewood excessively

Did you know?

  • Reduce meat consumption can help to stop deforestation
Global demand of meat is increasing while the space to rear livestock does not. Therefore, animal farming become one of causes of deforestation in Amazon. Around 70% of the Amazon rainforest clearing is to make way for cattle ranches. (Sara Popescu Slavikova, 2018)
  • Don’t buy products containing palm oil
A large percentage of the world’s palm oil production are coming from Indonesia and Malaysia, where the virgin rainforest is being cleared at an alarming rate of 2.4 million acres a year to make way for new plantations.
If you cannot drop some of your favorite products with palm oil entirely, please find at least for an alternative that carries a sustainable palm oil certification. (Sara Popescu Slavikova, 2018)

Tree Planting Programs:

There is a lot of tree planting programs around the world. Let’s have a look and feel free to join them if you interested.

Companies Working to End Deforestation

Did you know there is a lot of company start to make their products with taken an zero deforestation initiatives. Let’s see who are they.

Disney

In response to deforestation, Disney has dropped its paper suppliers which linked to deforestation. Disney is the world’s largest publisher of children’s books and magazines. Disney’s no deforestation policy includes papers sourced directly by Disney and those sourced by licensees, vendors, and suppliers. Now, Disney prohibits the use of paper products that do not meet the FSC – Controlled Wood Standards. This decision positively influences over 25,000 factories in over 100 countries.

L’Oréal

Launching the “Sharing Beauty With All” campaign, the cosmetics giant L’Oréal aims to make all of their products with “zero deforestation” certified by 2020. L’Oréal has committed to source their products from 100% renewable raw materials from sustainable sources to ensure their business does not support any form of deforestation.

Asia Pulp and Paper

Asia Pulp and Paper is one of the world’s largest paper and pulp companies.
In June of 2013, APP announced its commitment to end deforestation by 2020. In addition to their “zero deforestation” policy, the paper giant has also put a “Forest Conservation Policy” in place to help protect Indonesia’s rainforests.

Threat to Ocean

We know that when we protect our ocean, we are protect our future.
– President Bill Clinton

Nowadays, environmental issues is continue increasing and becoming seriousness. The environmental issues is becoming threat to the ecological environment system. Now, let us talk about the threat the ocean facing now.

Three main problems that the ocean is facing now:

Plastic Debris
Plastic pollution is the substances that cannot be break down being throw to the ocean

Overfishing
Overfishing is occur when the human catch fishes is faster than the fish can replenish.

Oil Pollution
Ocean can be polluted by the oil spill from the routine shipping, run-offs and dumping.

Today, I will share about plastic debris to the ocean. Plastic debris is the most serious issues to the ocean now. There is a huge amount of marine life are killed or harmed by the plastics.

From the research of Ocean Cruhsaders:

  • There are 100,000 marine creatures die from plastic a years.
  • Approximately 1 million sea birds also die from plastics.
  • Estimated there will be 46,000 pieces of plastics in every square mile of ocean.
  • There are 13,000 to 15,000 pieces of plastic dumped into the ocean every day.
Source: Ocean Conservancy

From the diagram above, we seen that there will be 2.5 billion solid waste is produced by human and around 275 million is plastic waste, 100 million will be coastal plastic waste. This result 8 million plastic goes into the ocean every year. Can you imagine how the ocean looks like ? How the marine life live in a ocean with full of plastics and think it is their food ?

How long the plastic will decompose?

  • Plastic is durable materials which made of polyethylene terephthalate and most of the bacteria cannot decompose the plastics.
  • Normally, plastic items need to 1000 years to decompose.
  • The plastic bags we use in our daily life will use 10-20 years to decompose.
  • Plastic bottles will need to take 450 years to decompose.
  • From the research, only the UV light from the sun can break the plastic down.
  • When the UV rays strike on plastics, it can break down the bonds holding the long molecular chain together.
  • Although UV rays can break down the plastic, but it still need a very long period of time.
  • To reduce the plastic pollution problem, biodegradable plastics are in development nowadays, it is a type of plastics which can be easily decompose.
  • In a nutshell, using recycle bag is still the best way as there will be reduction of plastic or rubbish made, and the recycle bag can always reuse.

Let’s us start to protect the environments and animals:

The slide share are displaying how the plastic pollution to the our now.

Human hurt the environment , but animals are taking the consequences.

Your Ignorance will kill them

The rubbish you simply throw may harmed the animals. In the ocean condition, some of the marine life will seen the plastic as their foods and this cause a lot of marine life’s stomach is containing plastic and rubbish. On the other hand, some of the marine life was nested by the plastics and this cause them couldn’t having their food or suffocated until they died.

Please throw your rubbish in a right way, start to protect the animals and ocean now. Your small action may save the animals and environment, your ignorance may continue killing them.

Let’s us start to protect them together now

There are a few things we can do:

  • Pick up any bottles or plastic you see
  • Try to not using straw now or bought the stainless straw
  • Try to use recycle bag instead of using plastic bags
  • Recycle as much as possible
  • Join or organize beach clean up

Do you know which organization charities are protecting our ocean ?

Let’s us see which organization are fighting to protect our ocean.

Below are some of the organizations which are having charities to protect our ocean:

Plastic Ocean Foundation

This is a global non-profit organisation addresses the plastic pollution issues and how it is impact human, ocean and marine life. This charity is want to change the world’s attitude towards plastic.

5 Gyres Institue

5 Gyres Institue is a non-profit organization which use science and education to drive solution. Their charity will focus on scientific research and unearths how plastics is damaging the environment.

Marine Conservation Society

Marine Conservation Society is UK charity which is strives to protect ocean and wild life. They are determine society’s mindset change to 4Ps – reduce, reuse, recycle and refuse.
